Seven Benefits of Google+ for your Dental Practice

Google Plus

Google Plus benefits for the Dental Practice

Seven Benefits of Google+ for your Dental Practice

New features in Google+ can help patients find your practice, improve your collaboration and productivity.

Launched in August 2011, Google+ is a prominent player on the social networking block. Despite the late start, it’s becoming increasingly useful and important for dental practices and dentists. Here are seven ways Google+ you can take advantage of Google+ for your dental practice.

1. Google+ Pages

It is imperative for your dental practice to have a professional business presence on Google+. Similar to Facebook Business Pages, Google+ Pages are a destination for anyone seeking information about your dental services. Users can “follow” you by adding you to one of their Circles; this is a new feature and Facebook is looking to introduce the concept of ‘Circles’ soon on Facebook.

2. Google+ Profile

Profiles refer to individuals; think about your dental biography and your credentials to be highlighted in a Google+ Profile. It is important to include your email address and a link to your Google+ Profile when publishing articles using Twitter or blog technology. This increases your authority and adds bonus points for the Google search engine.

3. Google+ Chat

The Google+ Chat application is the same as chat in Gmail, the additional advantage is that it includes people in your Circles. A number of our customers use it for instant messaging, audio, and video chats with other dentists and even patients. The chat area in Google+ has a status field to show they are online and if there is the possibility to use a camera for video-chat, which is similar to Skype. It is very easy to set up and use; literally just clicking and typing.

4. Google+ Hangouts

Google+ Hangouts is the application for a free of charge video conferencing tool that allows up to 10 participants, and focuses its main screen on whoever is talking at the time. Access can be via phone as well, which allows remote participants and those on the road to join your meetings. To facilitate online presentations, Google+ Hangouts also allows screen sharing and online broadcasting as well as recording tools. Additional integration is provided with Google Docs, the equivalent of the Microsoft Office Suite. This is very helpful for online presentation of text documents, spreadsheets or x-rays in electronic formats.

5. Google+ Stream

Google+ Stream is a great way to share ideas and work collaboratively. Features include text messaging via notes, editing pictures, videos and links to other internet pages, all focuses with your Circle of friends, co-workers, colleagues or patients. Only those in the Circle will see what you’ve shared, and they can respond and add their own notes. It’s a great way to have an informal conversation about dental topics.

6. Integration with GMail

Critical to Google+ is the integration with Gmail. This means that while you are reading an email, you’ll see any Google+ activity by its sender appear on the right side of your screen. This allows you to easily add people, such as patients, colleagues and co-workers to your Circles, and automatically keeps your contact information synchronized and fresh.

7. Integration with Reader

Google Reader is the application to share articles you find on other websites or which is transmitted to you via RSS. Via the integration with Google+, you can now share an article with any circle you desire, so those people can read and comment, and of course share their own as well.

Google+, Dental Online Marketing and Online Reputation Management

Google+

Google+ Accelerates Member Growth in the Dental Field

The majority of dental patients are now organized on social networks like Facebook and Google+. This has tremendous implications on the online marketing as well as reputation management strategies of dentists and their dental practices.

According to latest reports about member growth at its social networking service Google+, Google announced in December 2011 that the service is adding 625,000 new users on a daily basis. Those numbers are astonishing and translate into 18.75 million per month, 56.25 million per quarter and 228.125 million on an annualized basis. Analysts estimate the social network will have close to 400 million users within the next 12 months or by the end of 2012.

Google is the world’s largest internet search company, deriving most of its revenue from online advertising. It now seeks to challenge the social networking behemoth Facebook. The estimated number of users on the Facebook social network is estimated to be over 800 million at the end of 2011.

Google+ introduced the features of ‘Circles’ this year. Circles are more equivalent to real life since it allows users to group their friends and acquaintances in different categories; examples would be ‘People I work with’ or ‘People I watch football with’.

Benefits of Google+ Business Pages for Dental Offices

Dental Website Design and Development

Dental Website Design and Development

Online marketing has been taking market share and budget dollars away from traditional off-line marketing for the last 20 years. We compared the social media options from Facebook Business Pages and Google+ specifically from the aspect of usefulness for dentists and dental offices.

We get this question quite frequently: “Why should my dental office have a Google+ business page in addition to all the other social networks we are currently present?”

Answer: We believe Facebook has definitely a head start in popularity and overall number of users. We also believe that Google has a number of strategic long-term advantages that will play out in favor of Google+.

A key advantage is that Google can easily integrate Google+ business pages into organic search results. The importance of that is huge and it leverages the power of Google’s search engine. This will ultimately force every dentist and dental office to have a Google+ business page.

Another key integration point from Google is the popularity of Google Maps and the ongoing integration between Google+ and Google Maps.

You can easily see where this is going. Google has developed an array of very powerful applications and the real power lies in the integration of these powerful applications.

Facebook Business Pages vs. Google+ – Important for Dental Websites

Dental Websites with Google and Facebook

A good number of dentists have had great success with their Facebook Business Pages and are now wondering whether and how to take advantage of Google’s foray into the world of Social Media for business with Google+.

The big question every dentist faces: Is Facebook or Google+ better for my dentistry business? It is quite clear that Facebook has a huge head start in social media accounts; however Google is about ten times the size of Facebook in terms of employees or annual revenue.

Google has been trying to find a balance between responding rapidly to the fast growing social media market and is bringing out Google+ (Google’s Social Media offering) in phases. Google has chosen not to wait until the product is fully developed and tested and the offering today certainly lacks features and functions that are fully deployed at Facebook. Those features include multi-administrator support, audio and video file support and account transfers.

The current offering has a large number of functions and features that make it a real competitor to Facebook and most internet analysts believe Google is focusing the necessary resources to improving and enhancing the capabilities and features within Google+.

In a most recent interview with Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO and founder of Facebook, it became clear that Facebook as well is building up its development staff to push the Facebook Business Pages further ahead. Facebook with an estimated 800 million users is clearly firing on all cylinders and the fight for advertising dollars with Google has just started.

A lot more is to come…

Convergence of Traditional Dental Websites with Social Media and Mobile Apps

Dental Website Design Convergence

Dental Website Design Convergence

One of my predictions for 2012 will be the continued and accelerated convergence of traditional dental websites with developments in the areas of social media and mobile applications. Here are some of the major trends we experienced this year:

  • The accelerated growth of the Facebook social media network
  • The entry of Google Plus (Google+) as a competitor to Facebook
  • The dominance of the Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod applications in the consumer space
  • The accelerated growth of the Google Android platform, which is predicted to pass Apple’s iPhone in 2012 in market share

Hence it is easy to say that social media and mobile applications are rapidly establishing themselves as more than marketing channels. Dentists will continue to better understand how to leverage both social and mobile to meet their overall dental practice objectives by a better integration of these developments on the technology side into their overall marketing strategy.
